We work with some of the most vulnerable members of society, men and women, over the age of 18, all of whom are homeless, 35% will arrive directly from sleeping on the streets. Many come to us with very complex needs i.e. substance misuse, offending behaviour, mental health issues and, in most cases, have experienced significant trauma as children. Their experiences mean that they find it difficult to trust anybody, struggle to regulate emotions, have had little or no education or training and lack positive role models to learn from or aspire to.

Services
We work with the most vulnerable members of society
Service Overview
Our people centred approach has taught us the fundamental importance of creating safety, with this in mind, all referrals into service consider the likely impact on the St Pauls community. The circumstances and support needs of every person must be considered on their own merits and within the entirety of other residents. This is to make sure the hostel feels safe and secure for everyone living here.
Our overriding objective is that ‘People who leave St Paul’s have a place where they belong; the skills, capacity, and the right support so that for them, homelessness is rare, brief, and seldom recurring.
Our skilled team, working with partners, aims to give St Pauls residents the ability to;
- Manage emotional and psychological pressures
- Feel their place is safe, stable, and secure and
- Do purposeful things with their time; so good things happen, they feel good about themselves, and they willingly share these with those they trust.
Please read our Eligibility and Service Access Policy before submitting a referral enquiry.

Direct Access Counselling & Mindfulness sessions
Our Accredited Counsellor provides in house one to one Counselling sessions at no cost to residents. Counselling is based upon the principles of CBT, Person-Centred Therapy, and the Humanistic Approach, this enables us to work with the client to identify what happened to them and to explain why they display certain behaviours.
Resettlement Support
On going support is provided to those living in our two Resettlement Houses. This includes assistance with budgeting, building social networks and further move on options if appropriate.
Motivating Purpose
Our Support and Development worker and the team collectively encourage St Pauls residents to do purposeful things, inside and outside of the hostel. These activities build confidence, skills and help residents to feel valued and gain potential volunteering or employment opportunities
Peer Mentor Programme – People with lived experience
Provides a trusted route for real transition for residents, using peer mentors, across services, makes living a meaningful life beyond homelessness real. This can look like volunteering to paid employment as part of their journey of recovery.
Holistic Therapies
St Paul’s Mindfulness and Wellbeing Coach provides a range of coaching and holistic services to Hostel residents and staff which promote healthy thinking and inner wellness. These include; Hypnotherapy, Mindfulness, Anger and Stress Management and Self Belief and Confidence lessons.
Move on Support
Our dedicated Move on Worker works with Hostel residents to identify suitable move on options from St Paul’s. Move on support includes; registering on the Housing For You system (Social Housing register), looking at bespoke accommodation options, assisting with setting up a tenancy and working towards goals that ensure a successful move on from St Paul’s. Once individuals move on from St Paul’s, they are supported to maintain their new home.
Support and Development
St Paul’s Support and Development Worker is on site Monday to Friday and organises trips, volunteering opportunities and external activities for residents. We recognise that attending appointments can be anxiety inducing for some so the Support and Development Worker supports residents to attend appointments with external agencies including the GP and Drug and Alcohol services.
Drop in Clinics
We work in partnership with colleagues across Worcester City. Regular drop in clinics are provided by the NHS, Cranstoun, Emerging Futures and the Rough Sleeper Mental Health Team.
On Site Support
Our Hostel is staffed 24/7/365. Project Workers are on hand to assist residents with benefit issues, making appointments and managing daily activities. Every resident is assigned a Key Worker upon booking in to the Hostel, this designated member of the team works with the resident to identify short and long term goals and works with them to take the steps to reach these.
Kitchen Project
Our Kitchen Project offers volunteering and learning opportunities for residents; through simple cooking skills sessions in preparation for move on or through training as part of our Kitchen Assistant Training Programme.
WISSH
St Pauls delivers Worcestershire Intensive Support Service in Housing (WISSH), evolved from Housing First, across Worcestershire (excluding Wyre Forest) supporting 62 people experiencing homelessness and multiple disadvantage on a housing led provision. WISSH includes practical and holistic support, tailored to the individual.
We have a team of experienced Case Managers and Support Workers who work directly with individuals and other service providers, aiming to make a positive and lasting difference to people’s lives, including sustaining a tenancy, accessing services independently, improved wellbeing and a reduced demand on blue light services.
