Funding announcement for security locks for residents bikes
We would like to express our sincere thanks to Burg-Wächter, Secure Communities Scheme for their very generous award of secure bike kits for our residents.
It is more often the case that clients do not have the financial means that affords them the luxury of a motor vehicle. Therefore in order for them to get out and about they walk, occasionally use public transport (when their funds allow) but in the main, travel is done by bicycle with almost all of our residents either owning or having access to a bike, which we encourage of course from a physical health and environmental perspective. This enables them to attend education facilities, appointments, placements, employment etc; vital to them on their journey of recovery.
“The Burg-Wächter Secure Communities Scheme is an initiative designed to help community projects. Adapted last year, the Scheme changed to be able to better help communities struggling as a result of the Covid-19 lockdowns. As such, the scheme has since been able to help over 70 communities secure property and premises. The judging panel recognised the importance of the bikes to the residents of St. Paul’s Hostel and we hope the scheme’s support will help to remove any worries relating to the security of the bikes” – Mark Pearson, Burg-Wächter

although residents’ bikes are out of public view, we have little space to store them securely and often the bikes are on the floor or against walls outside the hostel entrance. There have been incidents in the past where bikes have been stolen and for some this is their only possession. Having the means to secure them, with the generosity of Burg-Wächter, is very welcome news to everyone. We are so grateful for the support, Thank you!
